Scholarships for Therapists

The Danville Chapter of AMBUCS annually awards approximately $5,000 in scholarships to local AMBUCS Scholars. Local AMBUCS Scholars are students from the Danville and Vermilion County area who will be going to college and entering physical or occupational therapy, speech pathology or hearing audiology as a field of study.

Awards are made based on financial need, academic achievement, and field of study. Students may also qualify for National AMBUC scholarships. Annually the National AMBUCS organization awards approximatelly $150,000 to college juniors, seniors and graduate students in the therapy fields.

The national program provides financial assistance to thousands of student therapists and has secured help for tens of thousands of people with disabilities. One scholarship can go a long way in creating independence for people with disabilities.

Since 1955, contributions are deposited into the Living Endowment Fund. The interest alone will someday provide a continuous source of scholarship funds. The Danville Chapter of AMBUCS, like all the others, provides contributions for the Living Endowment fund.

Some members pledge $1,000 qualifying them to become William L. White members - a tribute to AMBUCS' founder.

Every chapter has the opportunity to sponsor deserving students for grants of $500 to $1,500. Students may also ask for assistance with no chapter sponsorship. A scholarship chairperson is chosen by each chapter who chooses the students who most qualify for grants, interview them, and forward their applications to the AMBUCS Resource Center.

A national scholarship committee (four members from different regions) meet every year in High Point, North Carolina. They review the applications and decide who qualifies most.

Since its inception more than 9,000 students in all 50 states have been given scholarships totaling more than $4.6 million through the national program.
